Technology that protects industry and consumers

For forty years, Noselab ATS has been developing advanced technologies for materials certification, fire testing, and industrial safety.
An analysis by Massimiliano Nosenzo, the company’s R&D Manager

Within the international landscape of industrial safety and materials certification, scientific instrumentation has taken on an increasingly strategic role. Today, sectors such as automotive, construction, aerospace, transportation, and advanced manufacturing demand extremely stringent standards in terms of quality, durability, fire performance, and regulatory compliance.

In this context, testing laboratories play a crucial role in ensuring reliability and safety throughout the entire production chain.

Based in Bovisio Masciago (MB), Noselab ATS has been operating in this field for more than forty years, developing instruments and technologies capable of translating the complexity of international standards into accurate, reliable, and certifiable data. It is a journey that combines Italian technical expertise, technological innovation, and applied research.

“Today, our instruments integrate advanced sensor technology, intelligent data acquisition, and interfaces designed to simplify the work of laboratory technicians. Yet behind every machine lies a wealth of expertise built over forty years of experience,” explains Massimiliano Nosenzo, R&D Manager at Noselab ATS.

TODAY, MATERIAL SAFETY HAS BECOME A KEY ISSUE ACROSS A WIDE RANGE OF INDUSTRIES.
HOW MUCH HAS THE MARKET CHANGED?

“It has changed radically. Today, safety has become an integral part of industrial design. Manufacturers are required to deliver materials that are increasingly high-performing, sustainable, and compliant with constantly evolving international standards. This applies equally to an electrical cable, an automotive component, a technical textile, or composite materials used in construction.

Behind every certified product lies an extremely rigorous measurement process. In this respect, Noselab ATS is not merely an instrument supplier, but a technical partner that helps companies build reliability and earn the market’s trust.

This is the level at which we operate: making the performance of materials measurable and certifiable. It is an enormous responsibility, because the data generated by an instrument can have a direct impact on the safety of a public space, a means of transportation, or an industrial device. This is why we often talk about safeguarding quality: our role is to ensure that the relationship between manufacturers and consumers is built on reliable, verifiable data.”

WE SUPPORT COMPANIES THROUGH INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS AND TEST METHODS TO DEFINE THE SOLUTIONS BEST SUITED TO THEIR PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS

One of the most significant aspects of our work is the consultancy we provide on international standards.

“International standards are becoming increasingly detailed and specialized. ISO, ASTM and DIN standards are continuously updated to keep pace with the evolution of materials and manufacturing technologies.

Many companies face uncertainties in interpreting these standards or need to upgrade their laboratories without having all the necessary expertise in-house.

In this context, our role goes far beyond supplying hardware. We support customers in interpreting standards, selecting the most appropriate test methods and defining the instrument configurations best suited to their production requirements.”

Can we describe this as a kind of technical academy developed around the company?

“Yes, although in a very practical and operational way. We do not simply install equipment; we analyse the application context, the relevant standards, the materials to be tested and the customer’s objectives.

Today, companies need speed, but they also need the correct interpretation of standards. A methodological error can compromise an entire certification process.

For this reason, technical expertise has become just as important as the quality of the instrument itself.”

One of the most demanding fields remains fire testing.

“Over the years, we have developed a range of more than forty instruments dedicated to reaction-to-fire testing, from radiant panel systems to cone calorimeters.

These highly sophisticated systems simulate real-life scenarios with exceptional scientific accuracy. Every test generates essential data for the certification of materials used in highly demanding sectors such as aerospace, railway, marine, construction and automotive.

We have long collaborated with leading certification bodies and international laboratories because our instruments must guarantee accuracy, repeatability and full compliance with international standards.

In this sense, our technologies become true guardians of safety.”

What are the most important technological innovations recently developed by Noselab ATS in the field of plastic materials characterization?

“One of the most significant recent innovations is the development of an advanced high-resolution micro-video analysis system for density gradient measurement, a technology designed to enhance accuracy, reliability and process control in the characterization of plastic materials.

This technological evolution confirms our commitment to continuous investment in applied research, developing increasingly sophisticated solutions aligned with the needs of modern industry, sustainable manufacturing and advanced materials analysis.”
